Walking Visionaries Awards

The Walking Visionaries Awards highlight new ideas, big and small, for fulfilling the potentials of walking for liveable communities. The programme supports individuals and organisations from across the globe, from different professional backgrounds and cultural contexts alike. Participants in the Walking Visionaries Awards are united by one thought: that walking is an integral element of a good, just and sustainable city. Share your ideas and projects to win a Walking Visionary Award and participate in the global discourse on walking and liveable communities.

Winning submissions receive a free ticket to the foremost global venue to discuss walking and liveable communities: The Walk21 conference in Vienna, Austria.

During Walk21 Vienna award winners will meet leading voices in the field of active travel, future mobility and resilient urbanism. The “Walking Visionaries” will enrich their professional knowledge, expand their networks of peers and extend the scope of their work. Moreover, selected award winners will actively participate in the Walk21 Vienna conference programme as presenters of conference formats such as speed dating, lectures, round tables or workshops. The winning submissions will be published in the Walk21 Vienna conference documentation.

Currently there is funding available for 30 award winners. The prizes for the Walking Visionaries Awards are allocated to equal parts by a public online vote and a jury vote.

The 15 prizes awarded in the online voting will be distributed as follows:

4 prizes – Advocacy, Campaigning and Social Projects
2 prizes – Walking 2.0 and Future Mobility
4 prizes – Walking and the Arts
1 prize – Fashion and Walking Gear
4 prizes – Planning and Design for Liveable Public Spaces

Win before being awarded! The Walking Visionaries Awards create a reference collection of creative approaches to foster walking and liveable communities. All accepted submissions will remain published on this website to foster the submitters’ network and allow others to learn from inspiring ideas.

The submission is now closed. We want to thank all submitters for sharing their projects, ideas and visions! Submissions will be publised before the voting starts on Tuesday 26 May. All submitters will be notified via email about the start of the voting.

The Walking Visionaries Awards are open for ideas and projects covering all fields related to walking and liveable communities.
