Vienna’s new central railway station as a catalyst for urban development
160 years of railway history are over: Next to trains and rails, Vienna has been developing a new urban area called “Sonnwendviertel” for the last five years. A residential area with various kinds of subsidized housing projects was built around a 17 acre park. Vienna’s first smart apartments will also be built in this new part of the district Favoriten. The tour starts at nearby Favoritenstrasse and leads to the new school campus – Vienna’s most modern education centre for children and young people. The tour continues through the park and other residential areas and ends at the newly built Hauptbahnhof – Vienna Main Station. The tour will also focus on new bicycle lanes and footpaths recently created in this quarter.
