In between cultures: The transformation of the Brunnenmarkt market and its neighbourhood

During this tour we will walk along the recently redesigned Ottakringer Strasse, furnished with pedestrian-friendly elements in the public space and a curb extensions at tram stops that double as cycle paths. On the way to Brunnenmarkt – the longest street market in Europe with approximately 160 booths – we will pass the Yppenplatz, where the participants will experience high-quality recreation areas and a social mix of people. This place experienced an upgrading through extensive renovation, which was accompanied by public participation procedures. Additionally, multicultural initiatives were created and the square became a vibrant meeting place for the neighbourhood. The route ends at the newly created “Yppenheim forecourt” focusing on future planning perspectives in the area of the recently renovated subway station Josefst√§dterstrasse designed by Otto Wagner.
