Landstrasser Durchgänge: Explore the secrets of hidden passageways and new public spaces
Since the 1960s, the local area – the quarter – has represented a functioning urban neighbourhood for the urban planner Jane Jacobs. The public space is a networking and community hotspot that offers potential for the future of cities. Attractive “corners” and micro-public spaces, adequate seats and facades covered with greenery help create a strong closeness of citizens to and identification with their quarter. Various public spaces around the “Weißgerberviertel” in the 3rd district and passageways between the campus of the University of Music and a typical Viennese “Gründerzeit”-quarter are part of the tour. Attending this walkshop you have the chance to discover some Walk-space-AWARD-winning “best practice solutions”, i.e. the shopping areas “Landstraßer Durchgänge” and “Sünnhof”, where you can explore Vienna´s hidden passageways and courtyards.
