Neubauer Durchgänge – public spaces, piazzas and passageways

Starting at the public library (Hauptbücherei) at Urban-Loritz-Platz, the tour leads to Emil-Maurer-Park and a skating area that was planned and designed together with its users. Through Seidengasse, a typical street from the period of promoterism (Gründerzeit), we reach Marianne-Fritz-Park, a small recreational park amidst a densely populated area. From there we aim towards Mariahilfer Strasse, which was turned from a car-ridden street into a walking boulevard last year, used by thousands of pedestrians daily. Through Jenny-Steiner-Weg, an example of how an alley can be turned into a popular place where people spend their lunchtime, and Mondscheingasse we arrive at a small piazza that is the ‘secret centre’ of Neubau – the Siebensternplatz. From there a passage leads us to the famous Spittelberg and to the final destination of our walk, the eighth-largest cultural area of the world – ‘Museumsquartier’.
