Representative for pedestrian’s matters, Vienna Mobility Agency

Since 2013 Petra Jens is “Fußgängerbeauftragte” (pedestrians’ advocate) of the City of Vienna and deputy head of the mobility agency of the City of Vienna. The agency’s tasks are the lobbying for and increasing visibility of pedestrians’ needs and rights; raising the awareness of the benefits of walking and complaint management.

From 2007 to 2013 Petra Jens worked as public relations manager for Diakonie Austria, one of the five major welfare organisations in Austria where she envisioned and carried out federal campaigns on elderly care, disability issues and children’s welfare as well as coordinated and managed the communications of a 7000 employee strong organisation.  In 2006 Petra Jens designed and headed the “Initiative Eltern gegen Hundekot” (parents’ initiative against dog droppings), claiming fairness for conduct in public space. With 157 000 signatures this campaign was one auf Austria’s most successful initiatives which led to sustainable changes in executing existing laws.

Petra Jens holds a Masters of Civic Education from Danube University Krems and a Diploma of Agriculture from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna.
She has extensive experience in community volunteer work in regards to social, environmental and civic activities as well as community organizing.
