Respeto por el peatón (Respect for pedestrians), is an civil organization that promote a healthy and pacific walkability. We also promote quality of the walkability, working to look a pedestrian culture in Peruvian cities; through advocacy, communication and social marketing, and developing projects of urban intervention. We are pedestrian activists!
The traffic accidents in Peru are only the visible face of a deeper problem for the city walkers. We refer to the constant aggression and violence against pedestrians expressed in different ways, either by the omission of their rights, lack of protection and defense, lack of adequate public spaces for pedestrians, and lack a walkability promotion.
These deficiencies affect the quality of life of people in the city, affecting its peaceful, safe and healthy walkability.
The pedestrian problem does not matter at social and political actors. From the media stands out mainly recklessness of pedestrians. Perhaps because it is the reflection of this vehicular culture where pedestrian must yield to cars, and not the other way.
We are looking a pedestrian culture in Peruvian cities; through advocacy, communication and social marketing, and developing projects of urban intervention.
We will work with several civilies organizations, sub-national governments, social networks and media.
