How far can we go? City adventure

How far can we go? Is a city adventure for people in wheelchairs and those interested in exploring the city from the perspective of a person in a wheelchair. The urban lab will take place at the new Hauptbahnhof. The large-scale project distinguishes itself at the highest stage of barrierfree building regulations. This urban lab is taking a closer look on accessibility design and city planning.

Mobility means self-determination - means liberty. Accessebility regulations have become more and more of means in today´s architecture. During the urban lab this change in architecture is going to be scrutinized and further more experienced physically by exploring the recently opened Hauptbahnhof. Not-disabled people and handicapped people can get into contact asking each other : how far can we go?
Do architects understand designing for wheelchairs? Will accessibility design become the new universal? Do not-disabled people have to give up spatial qualities for handicapped accessibility? Does accessability design equip us for independency or is it limiting us by „protecting“ us.
The aim of the the urban lab is to stimulate provocative questions and proactive thinking about design and spatial experiences in the era of 21st century design. As a result experiences are mapped into wheelmap.org a platform for wheelchair users.
