Equality Park For Blind People

Equality Park For Blind and Visually Impaired People
Visually impaired people have just begun to win their own rights for the latest a few years. There is a national day in United States of America to remember these people called “Blind Americans Equality Day, October 15”. However, there is no such a day in Europe. In fact, we think that this day is not enough for these people.

We are supporting the fact that blind people should live 365 days of year equally instead of just 1 day. Thus, we thought that Royal Docks area can be a first step for realizing this dream. An “Equality Park” where visually impaired people and normal people take benefit equally. But how?
At the present time, there are very limited life conditions for blind people in open areas. Yes, in last years some signs on sidewalks are placed on the roads but in our opinion, these are not enough. Because there, people are walking as if traveling in railways. However, we want them to move freely to all dimensions on the way.
The subject of this competition is “Developing Royal Docks Area via Green Infrastructures”. So we used these green structures for the benefit of blind people. It is known that blind people has a more powerful sense of smell. We planted pedestrian ways with some smelling trees and flowers. In the area, every direction has its special smell thank to planting specific smelling flowers and trees. By this way, instead of following the ways like railways, blind people will find their ways by following fresh smells of trees and flowers. In the road junctions, there will be information boards written in Braille Alphabet that will describe which smell belongs to which area or activity. So, people find their ways without following signs on the roads.
We claim that Royal Docks will be a pioneer subjecting blind people in the world. The symbol of freedom in Europe. We wish that this freedom movement will rise up from Royal Docks and will cover all Europe and World!
